darkFlash Shows PC Cases and Co-branded Gaming Cases at Computex 2025

darkFlash showcased quite an extensive lineup of new cases here at Computex 2025, ranging from the somewhat traditional DS900 series to more sophisticated ones like those in the Art Ultra and Explore series. We start with the DS900 family, which received three additions. The DS900 Mesh obviously sports a full mesh front panel, the DS900WS adds wooden accents, while the DS900W features large side and front glass panels with, again, some wooden elements.

The DS900G features a single curved glass panel for a seamless panoramic view. The three DS900WS/W/G cases have the same dimensions (434 mm x 218 mm x 454 mm), while the DS900 Mesh is the largest, measuring 470 mm x 218 mm x 454 mm.

Hack a PC? Plug in a Razer Mouse with Automatic Synapse Installation

Over the past few generations, Razer has automated the download and installation of the Razer Synapse software by having it start the first time to plug in a Razer peripheral on your computer (mouse, keyboard, USB headset, etc.). This may be well-intentioned, but comes with a glaring security flaw, according to a LifeHacker report citing a security discovery by @j0nh4t on Twitter. Apparently, plugging in a Razer peripheral causes the Razer Synapse installer to prompt download and installation using a privileged Windows process (using Windows Update).

Once you download and run the installer, you can choose a custom installation folder for the application. This spawns a Windows Explorer dialog that is privileged and can access folders regular users probably don't have access to, as per an organization's group policy. Once in this dialog, you can simply shift+right-click on a folder, and click on "open PowerShell window here," to spawn a privileged PowerShell at that location, and knock yourself out with whatever it is you want to do to the machine. Visit the source link below for a video demo on how this hack works.

Microsoft to Kill Internet Explorer 11 Once and for All in 2022

Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser has been one of the biggest browsers in the world by market share. However, that was some years ago and the browser technology keeps developing to a point where a 3-month non-updated browser is slow and insecure. The latest version of Internet Explorer is version 11, which you can find still running on your Windows PC. You might wonder why is it still present when Microsoft announced its Chromium-based Edge browser some time ago. Well, many applications have built-int code that needs Internet Explorer to work. If there is no IE browser, the application would display errors and likely not run well.

However, Microsoft today announced that the company will be moving on from IE 11 and that it is finally killing it by June 15th, 2022. The IE browser represents a code that is probably hard to maintain and a potential security hole. That is why the company is deciding to end it in 2022. If you are wondering how the company plans to migrate a plethora of apps from needing IE, Microsoft is preparing Internet Explorer compatibility mode on its Edge browser. That way it ensures that all of the existing applications would run under the Edge browser and that old and insecure piece of code is removed from Windows.

Lenovo Announces the Explorer Windows Mixed Reality Headset

Lenovo's take on the Windows Mixed Reality platform, which we covered a few days ago as featuring Steam VR support and a still-in-its-infancy Halo VR experience, has just been named. The Explorer MR will set you back $349 for just the headset, or $449 for the headset plus a pair of 6-DoF (Degrees of Freedom) controllers.

Lenovo didn't say how much the Explorer HMD weighs, but the usual "comfortable and lightweight," and "finely tuned for perfect balance" have been mentioned. A flip-flop visor allows you to quickly remove the dual 1440x1440 displays from your face, should you need an emergency look at the real world around you. The Lenovo Explorer features inside-out spatial tracking, just like the other Windows MR devices, with two front-mounted cameras handling environment tracking. Trackable space on the Explorer should be around 3.5 x 3.5 meters, likely constrained by the fact that the HMD is tethered via USB and HDMI (tethering that is par-of-the-course for this VR generation.) Specs still haven't been finalized, but pricing is, so we shouldn't look to any substantial differences between the announced and final specifications.
